“幸存者：全明星篇”紧接着“珍珠群岛篇”，依然在巴拿马的珍珠群岛摄制。本季邀请前七季度广为观众喜爱的明星选手回归，再次参赛。节目被安排在第38届超级碗决赛之后首播，当晚取得3354万的收视。这是"幸存者"开播以来第一次有选手回归。选手被分成三个部落—Chapera, Mogo Mogo和Saboga，分别以珍珠群岛附属的岛屿命名。除了18位参赛者，其他被观众所喜爱的选手，诸如"澳洲内陆篇"的Elizabeth此时刚当上谈话节目"the view"的主持人，"马克赛斯群岛篇"的Vecepia则刚好怀孕在身均未能参赛。另外，Jonny Fairplay, Heidi Strobel和Colleen Haskell等都谢绝了邀请。本季摄制过程中，变幻频生，高潮迭起，是幸存者历史上极具争议的一季。
